~ Synopsis ~

After fighting Soul Stealers in Detroit, Khara hoped to return home to find answers in her father’s realm. But the land of the dead offers little information, and far too much tragedy. Now cut off from her brothers, and left only with her dark and unreliable companion Oz, Khara must navigate the centuries-old webs of deceit and betrayal, all while eluding the Underworld’s most depraved inhabitant. But she soon finds an unexpected ally in her adopted sister Persephone. Together, they endeavor to right a terrible wrong. And as Khara soon discovers, there’s more riding on her success than she ever thought possible.

~ Review by Angela ~

*I received a copy of this book from NetGalley and 47North Publishers in exchange for an honest review.*

I absolutely love this series! The characters and their relationship dynamics are so emotional and complicated. There is a lot happening in this second book. Some questions are answered while many more others are unearthed.

Ever mysterious and ever brooding Oz has decided to attach himself to Khara as if he were her shadow. And there are sure to be some fireworks when Hades finds out about this new “arrangement.” This installment has a lot of Oz and Khara interaction and the sexual tension is building. There are times when they are mere inches from each other in the heat of a discussion and you keep waiting for someone to make a move. I’m not going to say if it ever happens as that would spoil the book for some but Amber is the queen of sexual tension/frustration with her characters.

I am not sure how I feel about Oz or Persephone and this book didn’t help me to decide. I am not sure if I want Khara to be with Oz and I am very leery of Persephone. I think both Oz and Persephone are selfish and I’m not sure if Khara can change this trait. I am in love with Kierson and I wanted (needed) more Kierson in this book. I am seriously looking forward to the next book. If you haven’t read the first book of this series, go get it NOW and read it. 5 books
