#BookBlogWriMo – Let’s talk about reading, shall we?

So today we are going to talk about reading and reading habits, specifically mine. I read primarily on my Kindle Fire. I love my Kindle. It’s fantastic for what I need it for. I can take it anywhere and have all of my books with me. Don’t get me wrong; I love paperbacks and hardbacks as well. But, what I like to do with those is to get them signed by the author and then put them on my bookshelf to look all pretty. What I usually do is I download the ebook version of the book and read it on my Kindle. Then, I don’t have to worry about the book getting damaged or torn or wrinkled.

The other thing I like about reading on the Kindle is the dictionary feature. If I don’t know a word or I don’t think the author used it correctly, I can highlight and it shows me the definition. It’s fantastic. I highly recommend reading the Harry Potter books on Kindle as J.K. Rowling uses A LOT of really big words. Another thing that is awesome about the Kindle is that I can proofread on it easily. When I read, I can highlight a word or phrase or punctuation that is incorrect. I can go back to it easily. Plus, the search feature is really helpful. If I’m trying to figure out if an author overused a phrase or a word, I can search for it and it shows me every instance when it was used. Or, if I’m trying to find a specific part in the book, I can put a search phrase in for it.

I love the versatility of the Kindle and all of the cool things that it allows me to do. I have the one with the 8.9″ HD screen. I like the larger screen because I can see more on the page. And, if I want to watch a movie, I can and not have to squint. It has a great speaker built into it as well so movies sound decent. However, the one thing that you can’t get with a Kindle is the smell of the book. I love opening a book for the first time and smelling the pages. It’s like my own little slice of heaven.

Let’s mention reading places and where the best ones are for me. Basically, any room without my husband, or children, a TV or other people in it is great. I get distracted really easily and I like to lose myself in the story that I am reading. I don’t re-read books because I love the mystery and suspense in them so I want to make sure I soak all of it up the first time. That may be weird to some people but I can’t really re-read books. It’s not exciting to me the 2nd time around. I have read less than a handful of books more than once. If I read your book more than once, then you should feel pretty damn proud of yourself because it is super hard to get me to do that.

Well, that’s it. That’s me and my reading in a nutshell. It may be a little odd or seem downright normal (HA!). How do you like to read?

  1. The looking up words part is so true.
I didn’t realize how e-reading helps in that respect until you mentioned.
You’ve written “Where you read” in today’s post, now I’m curious as to what you’ll write for tomorrow.
That’s the reason I haven’t mentioned anything about places in today’s post. 😛
