~ Book Synopsis ~
I wish I could tell you that I was stolen.
Kidnapped off the street in some third-world country, sold against my will, while a desperate family back home waited and prayed and talked about me on the news.
I wish I could tell you that, because then you might understand.
What really happened? I walked to my fate with my eyes wide open. But before you say I deserved whatever happened to me, you should know. I was desperate. I was alone. I was afraid for my life. You would have done the same thing.
I thought things couldn’t possibly get any worse.
But then, I woke up in darkness, unable to move. There was only one thing I was sure of: I wasn’t alone anymore.
And then I heard HIS voice…

*I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*
Pieces of Autumn was a very intense, dark and just truly raw book. It was such a great read and a prime example of what we as humans are capable of, both the good and the bad, when everything we know has fallen apart and we must simply survive day by day.
When I started reading it wasn’t clear that the story was set in a dystopian society. Everything has basically crumbled, her parents were murdered and Autumn is living on the streets. While she runs from the man who murdered her parents, Autumn decides to turn to Stoker, understanding that she may become a sex slave, but hoping that she is wrong. I wish it would have been clarified in the beginning of the story that the country had collapsed, because initially I was a bit confused. If I knew in the beginning I think it would have added more the imagery of what was going on both outside and inside Stoker. When she enters Stoker, it is exactly what she imagined and feared. However, to her surprise she is quickly shuffled out of the building and becomes a gift to a man. It is with this man that darkness prevails and her world completely shifts.
I really enjoyed the grittiness to this story. The reader doesn’t know what to expect with Autumn or Tate and I really liked that I just couldn’t figure out what would happened next. There was this constant unknown and the author does a wonderful job of keeping the reader guessing until the time was right to reveal the information. The story flowed and remained consistent. My only complaint was the dystopian element that wasn’t really detailed until further in the story, but it was such an important part of the storyline and should have been described in more detail in the beginning. All questions are answered and there is no cliffhanger which I appreciated! I gave Pieces of Autumn 4 out of 5 books!
