The story opens up at a unlikely scene of Max dressed in drag and waiting for his best friend. It continues with a hilarious scene of him getting yelled at loud enough to wake up the neighborhood. He seems like a normal boy with a obsession with the girl next door until we run across a hidden conversation. The story continues to unfold with him getting kidnapped. He is completely out of his depth and searching for answers. Demons are chasing him while he finds out who he is. He has to do something to protect the ones he loves until it is too late.
Max is a regular boy. He has a mother who yells when he misses family night and a attraction to the girl next door. His best friend gets them dates that he isn’t too interested in but what can really happen? Right? Everything is written from his point of view which is different change for a book. He is a teenage boy so you have to bear with him with his raging hormones.
The book is a quick read and you find Max smart and funny. I did mention we start the story of him complaining about sweating while dressed in drag? I give this four books.

~ Excerpt ~

“There will be a time of much darkness and chaos, where The Wanderer—the marked one—will come out of hiding. He will show a blot face of a friend instead of foe, beguiling all with knowledge and longevity.

Do not be fooled. He is the first and will be the last. Destined to be the only one with true eternal life. For the marked one spends many millennia in exile, seeking greater power. Because of his immortality, he will succeed.

But with great darkness, comes even greater light. A fledgling Nephilim will emerge that changes the course of the marked one—depending on the path one chooses. With a power so great, not even the immortal Wanderer can prevail.

Sacrifices must be made for the greater good, and it will be the Nephilims decision whether to give everything or nothing at all.”

I couldn’t continue. A knot had formed in my throat and I felt nauseous. I hadn’t been eating so I didn’t know what my body could throw up, but it didn’t matter. I tossed the book to someone, I don’t remember who, and ran to the bathroom. With my head surrounded by the porcelain throne, I dry heaved but nothing came out.

Max is back in the second story. He is distraught from not being able to save the one person he truly wanted to keep safe. Now that Max knows he is one of the seven Nephilim the world has changed. He had seventeen years of normal and now that is over. After the battle and the betrayal he went into hiding. Once he found out he was Wrath and one of the seven he decides to find the others. His best friend helps him on the journey to find out who is hunting him and what he needs to know. Greed is hard to persuade to help him. Max is really a baby in terms of Nephilim and has much to learn. Nightmares and guilt don’t help much. He needs to find out where to go from here before everything truly falls apart.
Max still feels out of his depth. He is haunted by his failure to protect those he loves. The betrayal of the person he thought he could trust above anyone else. He needs answers to the many questions that he has. It seems everyone is reluctant to help to give him the answers. His frustration with his lack of understand is paramount. He has a lot of time to make up for since his father decided to keep him in the dark for so long. Now he has to find his way through demons and people after his kind. I love the fact Max is very much his age. He has gone through a lot but he still is a teenage boy. Jones is still there for him through a time where he needs people he can trust. The story continues to get more in depth as time goes on. Max’s story is far from over. I give this four books.

At twenty four years old, I’m back in South Florida in my third year of University-majoring in Communication studies. When not in the writing cave, I usually have my nose in a book or on Netflix, cut off from the world with a huge bowl of ice cream.
