Vengeance is Mine (a Benjamin Tucker Mystery) by Harry James Krebs

Driven by a traumatic, violent event in his teenage years, Benjamin Tucker, bestselling true crime author, is obsessed with helping authorities solve savage crimes near his home turf of Holly Springs, North Carolina. When a series of decapitated female victims is found in neighboring communities, he is helplessly drawn in to the investigation to help bring the killer to justice. But in a bizarre twist of events, the psychopathic murderer becomes fascinated with Tucker and stalks him, presenting him with unimaginable, grotesque gifts. The hunt for the killer turns personal and Tucker isn’t sure if he’s become the killer’s idol or his next victim. Vengeance is Mine, a gripping thriller with a healthy dose of droll humor, is a tale of sadistic revenge guaranteed to keep readers on the edge of their seats until the very last page.

Review by Angela

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. If you follow my page at all (and I know you do!), then you have noticed that I tend to review more of the non-romance/non-erotica books. There is a reason for that. I enjoy reading thrillers, mysteries and crime novels. I love stories by Jeffrey Deaver and Tess Gerritsen as they are rich in suspense and action. So I am always on the lookout for the next person to add to my list of favorite mystery authors. Mysteries, thrillers, suspense, etc can be a really tough genre to write. What could be construed as a great mystery or suspense idea to one person or even the author, could fall flat and wind up being stupid. I think it can be really hard to find the balance that makes a thriller/suspense/mystery a gripping page turner. Of course, the same could be said for any book in any genre.

I enjoyed reading the story and I was able to get into it fairly easily. The bad guy in this story is a true sicko and is always one step ahead of the police. Benjamin, the main character is pretty likable, funny and flawed. There were a couple of things that I didn’t like that I didn’t feel were necessary to the story, but I can’t tell you what they are because they are spoilers. There are twists and turns and things you don’t see coming. This book will surprise you and keep you guessing until the very end. I will definitely read more about Benjamin Tucker and will read more Harry Krebs mystery/thrillers. I give this mystery 5 books.
