Author Spotlight with Giveaway – Amber Lynn Natusch

Thank you for stopping by my author spotlight of Amber Lynn Natusch.  I have been stalking, er, following her for some time now.  I read the Caged Series and I was hooked.  Now I read anything and everything from her that I can get my grubby not-so-little hands on.  I wanted to do a spotlight of her and I asked her if she would give me something for the post.  I asked her if maybe she could get an interview with Sean.  She was hesitant, not sure that Sean would grant her an audience.  Seems he has been pretty quiet and elusive these last few months.  So, she apprehensively told me that she would try.  I sent some questions to her that I wanted answers about.  I cringed when I sent them because I already knew that he was going to be a hard ass about the interview and he most likely wasn’t going to answer anything.  But, I just waited patiently until Amber was able to get the interview and ask him the questions.  It took awhile.  Not only was Sean being his usual bratty self, but Amber was pregnant, like MONDO pregnant and was being pulled in about 100 different directions. And that was just before breakfast!!  She apologized profusely about how long it was taking, but I told her not to worry about it too much. This spotlight was supposed to be about her not make her lose her mind!  Well now I have the interview and I must say that I was on the edge of my seat and full of anticipation when I opened the email.  I would’ve peed myself had I not purposely gone to the bathroom before I read it.  I suggest that you all do the same.   I will wait…….   Ok, now that that is done, sit back, relax and enjoy this once-in-a-blue-moon interview with the ever handsome, ever elusive yet terrifyingly dark Sean.  [If you have no idea who or what I am talking about, get your ass over to Amazon or Barnes & Noble and get Caged. Then come back and see what all of the fuss is about!]

I was asked to interview Sean recently to see if I could get him to open up and share some information with readers―a mighty task indeed. In reviewing the questions I was given, I knew that I couldn’t even ask some of them. Exercises in futility are not my favorite. So, with a revised list in hand and a disgruntled looking Sean sitting before me (and that is QUITE a sight to behold, ladies), I got down to brass tasks, thinking that the best way to deal with a leader was to act like one myself.

That would be the first of my delusions to be crushed that day.

Here is how it all went down…

Amber: “I don’t really want to beat around the bush here, Sean, so I figured we could just jump into this thing full force and get it over with. Deal?”

Sean: *crickets*

A: “I’ll take that as a yes… So, first question the fans want to know the answer to is this: Do you hope to find your mother, and, if so, what do you hope to accomplish with that reunion?”

S: *cocks eyebrow before starting to get up from his seat*

A: “Okay, okay, I get it. You’re not excited to be here and you think this is all bullshit, but can you give me something to report back to the fans? Anything? Work with me here, Sean…”

S: “You’ve been saying that to me for the past year, Amber. I’m growing tired of hearing it.”

A: “Well I’m growing tired of your cagey tendencies.”

S: *shrugs* “You created me. If you don’t like your masterpiece, blame yourself. I’m sure a therapist could have a field day with that…something about self-loathing, I’m sure.”

I exhaled in utter frustration, knowing exactly how the rest of the interview was bound to proceed. Sean, however, couldn’t have looked more pleased with himself while he observed my increasingly flustered state, Cheshire cat smile in full effect.

A: *mutters under breath* “I’d like to wipe that smile off your face…”

S: “I’m sure you would. Next question.”

A: “Do you believe that Cassandra’s warning still applies?”

S: “Did I ever think that it applied?”

A: “No…I guess not.”

I was met with a very cynical expression that read “then I guess you have your answer.” I supposed I did.

A: “How hard did you find it to open up and shed some light on your past?”

S: “Not hard at all.”

A: “Not hard at all? Then why did it take almost a year to write a one-hundred page novella if you found it so easy to share?”

S: “I told you what you needed to know, when you needed to know it. No more. No less. The reason it wasn’t hard should be rather obvious.”

He leaned in closer to me, making my heart race instantly. My empathy for Ruby in that moment was epic.

“I will never tell you something I don’t want to. Ever. If you think you’re in control of our little relationship, you’re far less intelligent than you look. I run this show…never forget that, Amber.”

And there went delusion number two.

A: “Why are we even here then?” I asked, thinking I had far better things to do than deal with his less than forthcoming nature. “If I’m not in charge, then how did I make you agree to this?”

S: “You may be able to conjure me up in your mind whenever and wherever you want, but that is about the extent of your abilities. Beyond that, you have nothing. Nothing…and you would be wise to remember that.”

A: “Next question,” I barked, trying to push on and not show my growing fear. Sean was fearsomely beautiful and I was having a terrible time processing my emotions and his threats at the same time. “What was your favorite period to live in and why?”

S: He eyed me strangely for a moment, and I sighed thinking that he was about to blow off yet another question. Then he did something shocking. He started to answer me.

“They all offered something different and amusing, but I would say that the present is my favorite. Humans are such a study in contradictions. They’ve become truly fascinating creatures. I used to spend all my time so focused on the supernatural that I overlooked them entirely. But now, I see that they offer unparalleled entertainment. It’s hard to keep my eyes off of them—”

A: “Unless Ruby is around…”

His hardened eyes zeroed in on me.

S: “Nothing else exists when she is near. Nothing.”

A: “So…does that mean there’s a wedding in your future?”

He scoffed in response.

S: “Yet another reason why humans are so very entertaining. Only they would dare to sit before me and trivialize my relationship with Ruby by comparing us to a doe-eyed couple who can’t wait to bind themselves for their time here on Earth. There is nothing in your limited vocabulary that could even begin to describe the depth of meaning Ruby has to me. A wedding would be an insult…a mockery…a humanization of two decidedly inhuman beings. I have never lived by your laws, your ideals, or your meaningless rituals. I certainly would not deign myself to follow them now, especially where Ruby is involved.

A: “Well, that saves me from having to write that scene, I guess. I can only imagine the debacle it would turn into.”

S: “Indeed…”

A: “All right then, I think that sums up everything Angela requested I ask you about…”

His eyes narrowed at me, scrutinizing my expression.

S: “But you seem to feel unsatisfied. Go on then, ask whatever it is that’s so clearly plaguing you.”

A: “It’s about what your mother said…in Ruby’s vision—the Unborn one—have you found her? Is she okay…?

He launched at me from his chair, pinning me to mine. Black eyes met mine while sweat ran down my back, my nerves utterly shot. He was the Reaper, death incarnate, and he scared the ever-loving shit out of me.

S: “You will not speak of her again, understand me? You will not question me or anyone else about her. There are powers at work here that your feeble mind cannot possibly comprehend. If they did, that novel would be written already, would it not?” I nodded frantically. “Good. Now, I think this interview is over. And remember, Amber…I’ll be watching you.”

With that, he pushed himself away from me and stalked toward the door, throwing it open to slam against the wall and bounce itself closed behind him. I slumped down in the chair, wiping my brow while I exhaled heavily.

A: “Mother fu—“

His voice carried down the hall and through the closed door, forcing my mouth closed before the final word could escape.

S: “I would watch what you say, Amber. I’ll be listening too.”

If you’re dying to know more about me, allow me to put you at ease. I’m a sharp-tongued, sarcastic cancer, who loves vegetable smoothies, winter storms, and the word ‘portfolio’. I should NEVER be caffeinated, and require at least eight hours of sleep to even resemble a human being. At thirty-four, I just now feel like I can keep a straight face while saying the word “rectum” (which is actually a huge lie because I just laughed out loud while reading this to my husband). I live with my iPod firmly affixed to my body, drive too fast, and laugh/cry at inappropriate times.  I’m obsessed with urban fantasy… When I discovered that genre, I knew I had found my tribe. Now I write in that world because that’s what the voices in my head tell me to do. And they are very, very loud.
