Sometimes a Rogue (The Lost Lords) by Mary Jo Putney

sometimes a rogue

Sometimes. . .

Even the most proper young lady yearns for adventure. But when the very well bred Miss Sarah Clarke-Townsend impulsively takes the place of her pregnant twin, it puts her own life at risk. If the kidnappers after her sister discover they’ve abducted Sarah instead, she will surely pay with her life. . .

A Rogue. . .

Rob Carmichael survived his disastrous family by turning his back on his heritage and becoming a formidable Bow Street Runner with a talent for rescuing damsels in distress. But Sarah is one damsel who is equal to whatever comes. Whether racing across Ireland with her roguish rescuer or throwing herself into his arms, she challenges Rob at every turn.

Review by Venture

Sarah is with her pregnant twin sister taking a ride around the estate and then stopping at a church to look around.  Mariah is at the end of her pregnancy and is feeling a little closed in.  She goes into labor so they send their escort back to get help.  As soon as they find themselves alone, they hear some guys talking about kidnapping the Duchess.  Sarah takes her place and hides her sister.  She always thought she wanted an adventure.  I’m pretty sure this was more than she wanted.

Rob is a Bowstreet runner who came to visit his friend the Duke.  What he finds is a woman in labor telling her husband that he needs to find her sister.  Rob offers to go after her.  Rob has a long history of being able to find whomever he seeks and luckily he happened to show up on that day.  Some might call it Karma.  He chases them a lot further than he expected and he is worried since he didn’t find a ransom note.

Sarah and Rob are in for an adventure that neither of them expected.  They have to learn to trust each other.  Luckily for Rob that Sarah isn’t some sensitive miss who passes out at the drop of the hat.  Sarah is unlike anyone he has ever met.  She looks small and delicate.  Looks however are deceiving and she might help Rob in getting her out of this mess.

I have always been a fan of contemporary romance novels but also a big fan of Mary Jo Putney.  She doesn’t make some sappy love story.  She makes an adventure story with a bit of intrigue with a romance.  She always has strong woman characters and male characters that aren’t perfectly boring gentleman.  It keeps all her books interesting and different.  I give this 4 books.
